Season 2025/2026 Class Descriptions
Class Descriptions and Requirements:
Creative Movement (Ages 3–5)
A joyful introduction to ballet through creative play. Emphasis is on coordination, stretching, and learning how to behave in a structured class. Students will explore basic ballet positions, jumps, and stretches. Requirement: One class per week
Pre-Ballet (Age 5–6)
An introduction to the ballet barre and the basic structure of a traditional ballet class. Students expand their ballet vocabulary, explore jumps, and continue building flexibility. Tap is also available. Requirement: One ballet class per week (two recommended)
Ballet 1 (Ages 6–8)
A continuation of Pre-Ballet. Focuses on further barre work, new vocabulary, and developing alignment and strength. Tap, Contemporary, and Jazz are available. Requirement: One ballet class per week (two recommended)
Ballet 2 (Ages 7–9)
Students begin one-handed barre exercises. Emphasis on strength, flexibility, and foundational technique including pirouette preparation. Tap, Contemporary, and Jazz are available. Requirement: One ballet class per week (two recommended)
Ballet 3 (Ages 8–10)
Students work fully one-handed at the barre and integrate port de bras. Alignment, balance, and vocabulary development are central. Eligible for Pre-Pointe, Contemporary, and Tap. Requirement: Two ballet classes per week
Ballet 4 / Junior Apprentice Company Member (Ages 9+)
A Pre-Pointe level. Focus on strength and preparation for pointe work. Eligible for Company, Pre-Pointe, Character, Contemporary, and Tap. Requirement: Three ballet classes per week (for those interested in pointe and Company)
Ballet 5 / Junior Company Member (Ages 10+)
Beginning Pointe level. Students deepen their technique and understanding of ballet artistry. Eligible for Company, Pointe, Character, Contemporary, and Tap. Requirement: Three ballet classes per week (4 recommended)
Ballet 6 / Senior Apprentice Company Member (Ages 12+)
Students develop artistry and advanced technical skills. Eligible for Pointe, Partnering, Variations, Contemporary, Conditioning, and Tap. Requirement: Four ballet classes per week
Ballet 7 / Senior Company Member (Ages 13+)
Advanced level. Students apply complex corrections, refine technique, and deepen artistic expression. Eligible for Pointe, Partnering, Variations, Contemporary, Conditioning, and Tap. Requirement: Five ballet classes per week
Ballet 8 / Senior Company Member (Ages 14+)
Highest level for dancers pursuing dance beyond high school. Strong focus on performance, strength, and artistry. Eligible for Pointe, Partnering, Variations, Contemporary, Conditioning, and Tap. Requirement: Five ballet classes per week
Adult Ballet
For adult dancers (beginner–intermediate) seeking fitness, coordination, and enjoyment through ballet. Drop-in and monthly rates available.
Supplementary Ballet Classes:
Pre-Pointe (Ballet 4)
Preparation for pointe work. Focuses on strength, balance, and alignment using TheraBands and targeted exercises. Requirement: 3 ballet technique classes per week
Beginning Pointe (Ballet 5)
First-year pointe students build proper technique and strength at the barre and center. Requirement: 3 ballet technique classes per week
Pointe (Ballet 6–8)
Continued pointe work with increased center work, movement confidence, and technical refinement.
Variations (Ballet 6–8)
Repertoire class focusing on classical ballet solos. Emphasizes style, footwork articulation, and performance quality.
Partnering (Ballet 7–8)
Training in classical and contemporary partnering. Students develop the strength and coordination to work effectively with a partner.
Other Dance Styles:
Contemporary (Ballet 1–8)
Dancers are able to explore another form of dance that is widely used in the ballet world. It is very important for ballet dancers to practice other styles in order to truly understand their body.
Jazz (Ballet 1–8)
Dancers are able to explore another form of dance that is widely used in the ballet world. It is very important for ballet dancers to practice other styles in order to truly understand their body.
Tap (Pre-Ballet–Ballet 8)
Builds rhythm, musicality, and coordination through percussive footwork.
Conditioning (Ballet 5–8)
Supports injury prevention and technique with strength, core work, and flexibility. Included in the weekly curriculum.
Pre-Professional Division: GAB Company (For Dancers in Ballet 4–8)
The Pre-Professional Division is designed for dancers committed to pursuing ballet with intensity and dedication. Company dancers perform in all GAB performances and attend the Regional Dance America (RDA) Festival. They are eligible to take additional lower-level classes and may be considered for ballet competitions, as determined by the Artistic Director.
